COUNTER newsletter, March 2026

20 March 2026

As always, we’ve had a busy couple of months here at COUNTER. If nothing else, the new listserv is keeping us on our toes with more than 500 people signed up and chatting away regularly. We’d love you to join the conversation!

Tasha’s been travelling to lots of conferences, and carrying on with the best practice consultations, the second COUNTER Academy cohort, and other projects between times. The last big travel plan (for now) is the UKSG Conference later this month, where COUNTER will have a booth. If you’re attending, come find us.

COUNTER Conference

The call for speakers for the third annual COUNTER Conference is still open. Get your proposals over to Siân via our online form by the 17th of April to share your knowledge with your colleagues.

We’ll be opening registration the following Monday (20th April). Members, keep your eye out for the invitation to register for your free spot!

Consultation updates: AI, Compliance, and more

Thanks to everyone who responded to our three best practice consultations! Your input really is valuable, and our working groups are busy digesting all of the feedback. In the meantime, you can read about what we heard here:

We’re also spinning up a new working group on optimised open access reporting. There are three spaces available for people who aren’t on the Advisory Committee: if you’d like to be one of our extra voices, email Tasha to let her know.

Updating our Education pages

We’re cracking on with a community-requested project to update the friendly guides to make them more accessible. Tasha’s taking the opportunity to revise the English language versions to answer some common questions. The guides are being released as they are finalised, so keep an eye on the Education pages to see them as they land.

Join the COUNTER board

Nominations are still open to join our Board of Directors from 2026–2028. Our Board keeps us on track, ensuring we deliver on the COUNTER mission and objectives. Express interest by 27th of March 2026 if you want to guide COUNTER’s future.
