The new COUNTER Validator

24 July 2025

In early June we invited our community to be part of the public beta for the new Validator. The same day, Beda Kosata gave a live demo of the Validator at the COUNTER Conference 2025.

Today we’re delighted to report that the beta test has been really successful. The old validation tool will therefore be shut down at the end of July, as previously announced.

If you’ve not already registered for the Validator, visit validator.countermetrics.org and sign up today. The tool is free for everyone to use.

David Sommer, Chair of COUNTER’s Executive Committee, says

“Data quality is really important to COUNTER and the users of COUNTER reports. The new validator tool is a fantastic resource for publishers and report providers to allow them to easily check their reports are accurate and correctly formatted, ultimately benefiting the whole community that rely on COUNTER compliant reports”.

Beda Kosata, CELUS Lead Developer, says:

“We are immensely happy that we could have been part of the new COUNTER Validator development. As a big consumer of COUNTER reports, we have first-hand experience with problematic reports and appreciate the vital importance of tools like the Validator in improving report quality.”

Most of our Conference videos are only available to registrants until next year, but we’ve chosen to make Beda’s demo public immediately.
