Stuck on a COUNTER question?

05 December 2024

Are you stuck on a question about COUNTER? Our education pages provide key introductions to all things COUNTER.

Visit our education pages

We have structured the pages around eight topics:

  • Metrics – the three types of metrics in COUNTER, and how to use them
  • Reports – the four COUNTER Reports and their pre-canned standard views
  • Open Access – credible, comparable usage metrics for OA content
  • Consortia – how COUNTER supports consortia with their usage reporting
  • Tech – a simple introduction to the more technical aspects of the Code of Practice
  • Using reports – how to access and work with COUNTER reports
  • Compliance – the process of becoming and demonstrating compliance with the Code of Practice
  • What’s new – the key changes between Release 5 and Release 5.1

In each topic we offer a Friendly Guide. These are available in Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. We also provide a one-page Summary designed for those who prefer to print things out, and a video class.

The focus of all these educational materials is on Release 5.1 although the pages also currently include links to materials for Release 5. From January, Release 5.1 will replace Release 5 as the current version.

We also have FAQs

If you are still stuck on a COUNTER question, we also have an extensive set of FAQs. These are more specific than the Education pages. We designed them to help people who are already using COUNTER reports find the answers to their questions.

If your question isn’t in the FAQs, get in touch with Tasha and she’ll be happy to answer.

Online training

You may also want to sign up for the upcoming (free to members) webinar on 12 December. And do keep an eye out for future training opportunities for COUNTER members.
