COUNTER for repositories
02 July 2026The Code of Practice for Research Data (CRD) was a milestone in data evaluation practices. It made it possible to report comparable usage counts across repositories and other data platforms. However, repository infrastructure has changed a lot since we published the CRD. In 2024 we worked with Make Data Count to find out if repositories would be ok with merging the CRD into the main Code.

As part of the fix-and-feature Release 5.1.1 of the Code of Practice, we’ve merged the two Codes. Tasha’s going to produce a new Friendly Guide to COUNTER for Repositories late this year, but in the meantime if you have questions about how repositories should use R5.1.1, please get in touch.
