Publishers, be part of our next focus groups

10 February 2025

We invite publishers to be part of our next two focus groups. At COUNTER we continue to explore how to address current and emerging challenges for the COUNTER community in measuring usage data. Many trends affect different organisations differently. Therefore, to dig deeper into particular issues, we are consulting with sub-sections of the COUNTER community separately. For our next two focus groups we particularly invite report providers (publishers or publishing platforms) to explore two topics:

27 February – Lowering the barriers to getting involved in COUNTER

In our next focus group, on 27 February, we will be particularly focusing on small publishers. We would like to see a good geographical spread in participation in this focus group.

Libraries tell us that they want more publishers to provide COUNTER reports. However, some smaller publishers have shared challenges with meeting all the requirements of COUNTER reporting and compliance. This focus group aims to explore the main challenges faced by small publishers and consider some solutions to improve COUNTER involvement amongst smaller publishers.

12 March – What publishers are doing with GenAI

Late last year we had a very useful introductory discussion about the many emerging challenges with GenAI. This focus group builds on those discussions and begins to explore a COUNTER response. In this focus group we want to hear from publishers, of any size, about what you are doing with GenAI today and what you are planning to do.

Not a publisher? We will want to hear from you too!

These next two workshops are focused on publisher members of the COUNTER community, finding out more about what they are doing. However, we will also be speaking with librarian members of COUNTER in future groups. Keep an eye on our website and social media for upcoming librarian-focused discussions.
