Join our working group on OA usage metrics
25 March 2026At our last Advisory Committee meeting we agreed to start a new project. In April, we’ll launch a new best practice working group on usage metrics for open access.
Our global reporting is already designed for OA (read more in the Friendly Guide to COUNTER and Open Access). We know there’s more to do to make OA usage reporting really effective. We’ll be building on what’s already in the Code and on work from NISO’s Open Access Business Processes (OABP) working group. We’re likely to cover:
- How to facilitate global usage reporting for articles published under a bundle deal (a.k.a. read and publish / transformative / transitional deals).
- Optimal filters for a useful, usable Global Item Report.
- Managing usage reporting in a highly distributed OA environment.
- Connections to other best practices, such as syndicated usage or the upcoming pathway to compliance.
There are two open spaces for community members who aren’t part of the Advisory Committee. Get in touch with Tasha if you’d like to be involved!
Update on 09 April: we’ve had a lot of interest in this working group and have no capacity to bring on any more volunteers. Thank you very much for your interest: we’re hoping you’ll all be as active in responding to the consultation when it comes out!
