Our footprint

22 May 2026

Our last post talked about our volunteers. This time, we’re going to show you where you can find colleagues in the COUNTER community. We might be small, but we’ve got a pretty wide geographic reach! The map below shows the number of organisations in our database in different countries, both members and non-members. We’re really pleased that in the last two years, we’ve reached organisations in 16 new-to-COUNTER countries in Asia, Africa, and South America.

If you aren’t connected with COUNTER, but you would like to be, check out the Membership page. There’s free membership for organisations in Research 4 Life countries, as well as lots of low-cost membership options for libraries.

For those who’re wondering why Tasha says we reached over 4000 libraries and publishers last year, when there are not quite 1500 in the map: she’s including the affiliations of everyone who came to the webinars and conference sessions she spoke at during 2025, as well as the affiliations of everyone who emailed her a question. We don’t automatically register people in the database, which means not everyone shows up in our official figures!
