News about our Friendly Guides

04 March 2026

Two of the things that came out of our community survey last year were about our Friendly Guides. The first was to create some extra guides on new topics, beyond the eight already available on our Education pages. They’ll be on

  • The COUNTER API (formerly sushi) – if you’ve any ideas about how to make an API friendly, do let us know!
  • COUNTER’s tools, the Validator and the Registry.
  • How publishers should manage their migrations from one technology provider to another.

If you have ideas for other guides we should work on, please email Tasha.

Developing new guides is quite time-consuming, so that work will be happening in the background over the next few months. In the meantime, we’re taking the opportunity to address the other request from the survey. The existing education pages are being revamped to make them more accessible and informative. That means moving the content of the friendly guides out of PDF, as well as improving the accessibility of the PDF versions in English and all of the translated languages. And of course, any small errors that crept in during the initial development phase are being corrected.

You’ll see the education pages change slowly over the next month. For now, check out the Friendly Guide to Changes in Release 5.1, which which is already live in the new format.
