Could you be our next Board member?

20 January 2026

We’re seeking two new people to join our Board of Directors from 2026–2028. Our Board keeps us on track, ensuring we deliver on the COUNTER mission and objectives. If you want to guide COUNTER’s future, this is the perfect volunteer role for you.

About the role

  • Directors are expected to make constructive contributions to our discussions during our quarterly meetings. They may occasionally be called upon to share their expertise between meetings.
  • Directors hold their roles for three years, and may be reinstated for a second three-year term.
  • This is an unpaid role. However, if we ask you to travel for any reason then we will, of course, reimburse reasonable expenses.

Who we are looking for

One of the open positions is to replace Heather Loehr. She’s been a valuable part of the group but is coming to the end of her second term of office (thanks Heather!). We’re looking for a librarian or consortium manager from North America to make sure the Board still reflects our membership.

We’re allowed up to seven Directors, so we’re also seeking a library or consortium representative from outside of North America.

We would love to receive nominations from people who have not previously held senior strategic roles. If you are early in your career, or open to learning something new, please consider this role!

The only restriction is that candidates must be employed by or associated with a COUNTER member organisation.

Nominations

Tasha and the Board are of course happy to answer any questions you have before applying – just drop us a line. If you’d like to be part of the team, please send a short expression of interest together with your CV or LinkedIn profile to tasha@countermetrics.org. The closing date is the 27th of March 2026. If you are nominating someone else, make sure you have their consent first!

The current Board of Directors will review all expressions of interest. They recommend a slate of candidates for approval by the membership at the AGM, which will be in June 2026.
